Feature Artist, January 2026:
Greg wilson
Watercolours, Oils & Pastels
January 2026 welcomes Iluka artist Greg Wilson as our Feature Artist of the Month. His exhibition brings together a rich selection of works from the past year, spanning watercolours, oils and pastels — a quiet conversation between medium, light and place.
Primarily a watercolourist, Greg delights in the delicate tension between abstraction and realism. He allows the fluid, unpredictable nature of watercolour to lead the way, while gently anchoring it to recognisable forms. Yachts and fishing boats recur as favoured subjects, their reflections shimmering and dissolving into colour — scenes perfectly suited to the poetry of water and pigment.
Working from a studio in Iluka, perched at the mouth of the Clarence River, Greg draws daily inspiration from shifting tides, working boats and the ever-changing light of coastal life. It is a painter’s place, and he paints it with affection and deep familiarity.
Greg has been painting since the age of twelve. He holds a Diploma of Fine Arts from Lismore TAFE (2003) and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Architecture and Industrial Design from Queensland University of Technology (1983), a background that quietly informs his strong sense of structure and composition.
An exhibiting member of the Iluka Emporium, Greg values the warmth, creativity and colour of the local artist community and is proud to be part of the vibrant cultural life of Iluka and its surrounds.
